Came Through Drippin Melanin

Came Through Drippin......Melanin

The conversation went something like this......

Me: So basically you tried to replace me with them?

Him: Yea and I don't even mess with Darkskin chicks.....

Now let me say at the moment I let the comment slide because the context of the conversation was deeper than this and other things needed to be addressed to attempt to salvage an almost 30-year friendship.
However (comma) Mr. You know who you are we shall have words about this foolery.

*GEM* You are cute, pretty or attractive for a dark skin girl isn't and never has been or shall be a compliment!
Stop saying this shit to women! I repeat Stop saying this shit to women!!!!!

This conversation made me begin to think about some things that have been happening lately.
See I work for a Celebrity Cosmetic Dermatologist and my skin is on display.....like really on display. Being in an environment such as this makes me hella aware of so many things being a woman of color. ( a blog is coming on that real soon)
I'm the darkest person in the office. And many of the treatments we offer aren't for people of my skin tone, or they are unsure of how they will work on a person of my skin tone.......Team No Genuine Pig Ya Dig! This is not Tuskegee UmmmmKay.

Sidebar: If you do not get the Tuskegee reference please I implore you to read more.

I know you read that and you're like "why are you still working there???"
Well, there is a purpose and a time for everything and I have plans that are in the works. I've learned not to share details and to work in silence. SO just wait on it cause your girl is working.

Anyhoo that went left.....back to my rant!

For years I dated this man-child who would consistently try to convince me I wasn't dark skin but in fact, I was "brown skin". When I look at it now it was only to support his color complex. He felt it sounded better to say he was with a brown skin girl vs he was with a dark skin girl.

*GEM* Melanin is MAGIC no matter the shade!

"Melanin is an incomparable beauty from the lightest to the darkest skin tone, Black women and black girls are exquisite beauty in every shade. Yes, Black females have that special something that can't be ignored. We are Melanin Queens Beautifully Created.
Respect the Complexion!" Stephanie Lahart

I really just needed to get that off my chest.

*GEM* Team Dark skin  NO Team Light Skin NO
TEAM MELANIN!!!!!!!!!
Because at the end of the day when "they" look at us we all look BLACK!

Are you a Thermometer or a Thermostat?

Are you a Thermometer or a Thermostat? Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking."Romans 12:2 TM Don't be a thermometer, be a thermostat. Thermometers just reflect the climate around them - thermostats set it. Actually, they lift it! Most of us are like thermometers reflecting the culture around us. We buy things others buy, say things others say, wear things others wear, and value things others value. Oh, there are slight variations, but most of the time we don't set the climate for the world we live in; we simply adjust to it. But not overcomers! No, they take life to the next level. They become thermostats and change the environment in which they're placed. For instance, you may know people who raise the Spiritual temperature of a group or determine the attitudes of others just by being present. They're pacesetters. They influence, rather than merely allowing others to influence them. Paul's challenge to ...

The Lost Tribe Of REAL Woman

I have touched on this topic in the past, and due to current events felt the need to revisit it. In the year 2011 I have come across many situations that have made me ask the question, "where are all the real women?" In a time downtrodden with the insurgence of reality television. The images of Real Women doing Real things are few and far in between. It seems as society has embraced the images of women fighting and gossiping and crabbing* each other as the norm. But did I miss the memo or something? I wasn't aware that this was the way to carry yourself as a woman, a mother, a sista, a friend...ect. Since when did it become ok to not be happy with yourself so you drag down every and anyone around you? Quoting Basketball Wives, Love & Hip Hop, and Nicki Minaj like its sacred grail. Catchy one liners for tee shirts is not what life should be made of. There was a time when a Woman could compliment another Woman not knowing her personally, but just out of respect...
