Self- Esteem Revisited

Self- Esteem Revisited

Why Is It Soooo Hard To See Ourselves The Way GOD Sees Us?

self-es·teem
ˈˌself əˈstēm/
noun
noun: self-esteem
  1. confidence in one's own worth or abilities; self-respect.
"assertiveness training for those with low self-esteem"

"the best thing I ever did for my self-esteem was to divorce Roger"

So I posted on my Facebook page asking "Self Esteem..... Thoughts?"
  2. Only one person braved the comment section.  To sum up his response Self Esteem is not Biblical.

As I read his response my thoughts swirled......." Why cant we see ourselves the way GOD sees us?" (in my best Carrie Bradshaw thought bubble voice)

I will be honest this notion has only become clear to me in my most recent years.  We live in a society filled with comparison, discontent, and people pleasing.

As a young girl my issues with self esteem didn't emerge until I moved uptown . Moving to this melting pot of West Indian culture. It was brought to my attention just how dark my skin was considered, just how badly I needed a perm for my hair to look like something worthy and a whole slew of other things.
These things were new to me, my family didn't speak about those things. But I quickly learned lessons in good hair and light vs dark.
These all created a foundation of confusion honestly. God doesn't make A N Y mistakes so if I happen to be this dark or that light or my hair is this coarse vs this straight. It is in his will.
What I can do is do  my best with what God has given me.

As an adult I became aware of the need for breaking off of these false belief systems that had once plagued me. The Lies, The Strongholds.... any thing that has held me back from seeing myself as God sees me.
But also realizing that self esteem runs deeper that the physical. We lose self confidence when we compare and contrast ourselves with other. Scrolling endlessly through other peoples highlight reels will do that to you. Especially when you aren't particularly happy and accepting of what is displayed on your own.

So exactly what can we do to start to remedy this?????

Please note I don't have all the answers I'm just a Sister trying to shine and have my Sisters shine too.

Seeking Gods word Daily has truly helped me be in a better place over the years and in those moments when I question my Awesomeness.

*GEM* Sis forgive yourself. God has already forgiven and freed you from that thing you are still holding over your own head.

When I forgave myself for the things that I thought were wrong with me I was able to walk worthy of my calling.
What ever it is..... Forgive yourself for it. God can use it to his Glory. And isn't that why we are here.
What mess is he waiting to turn into a message?

*GEM* What you talking bout sis???? Of all the people on the planet, you talk to yourself more than anyone. Make sure you are saying the right things.
Life and death are in the power of your tongue. Yours!!!!!! Are you killing yourself softly?  Or Giving yourself liiiife hunny!
Don't know what to say here is a start.
*GEM* If outside validation is your only source of nourishment, you will hunger for the rest of your life.

It is Self Esteem so it starts with you. Who are you allowing to plant seeds into you? If your hungry in this area lets start by checking your diet.
Surround yourself with things that edify positive images. That can be what your reading, watching and listening to. Guard your hearts my Sisters. From it our issues flow.

Never Lose your light or your salt. (Think About it )

Are you a Thermometer or a Thermostat?

Are you a Thermometer or a Thermostat? Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking."Romans 12:2 TM Don't be a thermometer, be a thermostat. Thermometers just reflect the climate around them - thermostats set it. Actually, they lift it! Most of us are like thermometers reflecting the culture around us. We buy things others buy, say things others say, wear things others wear, and value things others value. Oh, there are slight variations, but most of the time we don't set the climate for the world we live in; we simply adjust to it. But not overcomers! No, they take life to the next level. They become thermostats and change the environment in which they're placed. For instance, you may know people who raise the Spiritual temperature of a group or determine the attitudes of others just by being present. They're pacesetters. They influence, rather than merely allowing others to influence them. Paul's challenge to ...

The Lost Tribe Of REAL Woman

I have touched on this topic in the past, and due to current events felt the need to revisit it. In the year 2011 I have come across many situations that have made me ask the question, "where are all the real women?" In a time downtrodden with the insurgence of reality television. The images of Real Women doing Real things are few and far in between. It seems as society has embraced the images of women fighting and gossiping and crabbing* each other as the norm. But did I miss the memo or something? I wasn't aware that this was the way to carry yourself as a woman, a mother, a sista, a friend...ect. Since when did it become ok to not be happy with yourself so you drag down every and anyone around you? Quoting Basketball Wives, Love & Hip Hop, and Nicki Minaj like its sacred grail. Catchy one liners for tee shirts is not what life should be made of. There was a time when a Woman could compliment another Woman not knowing her personally, but just out of respect...
